A young man has lost his mother, sister, and nephew after their Broken Arrow home caught fire last Saturday morning.
Manny Talamantes' 15-year-old brother was the only one to make it out of the house, but climbed back in a window, twice trying to save his family and is now at a Texas hospital with burns all over his body. Manny says there is nothing that can heal the pain he is feeling right now because he loved his mom, sister, and nephew so much. But, he says they are a family of fighters and he finds some comfort knowing how hard they fought.
"I heard the explosion and that's when I ran over there and I could just hear him screaming with the pain while he was burning,” said Manny. "I am hurting like no other. I blame myself that I couldn't find them when I went in there but I know I have to stay strong for when my little brother comes back."
Manny says it's still a blur. He woke up to see his mom's house on fire across the street and he did all he could to try to save his family.
"I started breaking all the windows all the way to the room until I got to the room,” said Manny.
Manny says his mother Manuela, his 15-year-old sister Yaretzy Talamantes and six-year-old nephew Jaaziel Guttierrez weren't able to make it out. His younger brother Yovanny Talamantes did get out but risked his life trying to save the others.
"I am so proud of him. I know I've got to be strong for him because he's going to need me. This is going to be a long journey for him,” said Manny.
Manny wants his loved ones to be remembered for the unique and amazing people they were. He says his mother was a fighter, who had beat cancer, tumors, and heart surgeries and still managed to be the glue of the family.
"She was always just caring for everyone else instead of putting herself first,” said Manny.
He says his sister was brave and tough, just like their mother. And he treated his nephew as his own son.
"He was a son to me. He was everything to me. I was the one who he called "daddy,” said Manny.
Manny says he is trying to stay strong for his family and cling to the good memories.
"All I know is I've got to deal with the pain here. How I am going to do it I don't know but I know I have so much support,” said Manny.
Manny says his younger brother was in a coma all weekend, but is now awake but has a long road to recovery. The Broken Arrow Fire Department is still investigating what caused the fire.
