Professional baseball is back in downtown Tulsa.
The Drillers will host the Amarillo Sod Poodles Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their home opener. Despite the weather, the team hopes fans will pack the stands out at ONEOK field. The Tulsa Drillers are back in full swing debuting new jerseys and lots of excitement for the season ahead.
"We are so excited. It is finally back. Baseball is here in downtown Tulsa and our guys are ready to play. We're excited as a staff; the team is excited,” said Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Marketing Justin Gorski.
Gorski says this season has been a long time coming. He says it's the first full season that the stadium is completely open and back to normal. The Tulsa Drillers are taking on the Amarillo Sod Poodles in Tuesday’s game. Gorski says fans can expect new concession items on the menu like shaved ice and sandwiches. Plus, there's an app where people can order from their seats.
There are new field lights and merchandise, and the first 5,000 fans get a rally towel. There are 69 home games this year, including Tuesday’s game, with a record 22 fireworks shows on Friday nights and holiday weekends. Hornsby will be showing off his dance moves and Bobby Miller, one of the top-rated Dodgers prospects, will be pitching.
“We started on the road. We won all three games so we're coming back home undefeated. It's going to be a great year this year and we can't wait for fans to come out and enjoy it with us here,” Gorski said.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 6 p.m.
The game kicks off at 7:05 p.m
