Take a drive through Wynnewood and more than likely you will see local hero, Brian Impson.

“I see him riding, he’s a really nice guy. He stops and talks a lot,” said Wynnewood resident Owen Schafer.

As soon as the sun comes up in Wynnewood, 70-year-old Brian Impson hits the road on his bike.

“From here to Pauls Valley and back down to Davis and back, that’s right around 44, 45, maybe 46 miles,” said Impson.

The Army veteran is a town hero.

“The newspaper called me a local legend, but I don’t believe it,” said Impson.

Without saying a word he’s encouraging the younger generation.

“He inspired me to take my bike out of the shed, out the shed back there, air it up and start riding my bike again,” said Schafer.

“The younger generation that waves to me, and I impress them, and I got people getting out on the bikes and getting physical around here and that’s good,” said Impson.

But in 2018 Impson’s bike riding days nearly came to an end.

“I had a wreck, I got hit by a car, when I qualified for the 2018 senior games in Albuquerque. 55 staples from my tail bone up, 22 months in a wheelchair,” said Impson.

He would spend 14 months in the hospital and had pretty much given up riding until a friend gave him a little encouragement.

“She told me to get out of that chair and be a warrior,” said Impson.

That was the inspiration he needed to get back riding and qualified for this year’s senior games in Florida.

Going into the games Brian liked his chances, but…

“Miscalculations and big head.  I thought I could do it. But you get humbled real fast when you meet some of those racers,” said Impson.

He has already started training for next year’s senior games, and he says without question, he’s bringing back a medal next year.
