Local Bixby Retail Store Sells Locks To Be Placed On Harmony Bridge

Harmony Bridge, located off South Memorial Drive, has been around since 1939.

Originally, the bridge served as a pathway to Bixby but has developed new significance in recent years. For some, it's a place to look for wildlife on the Arkansas River or to get some exercise. But for others, it's a place that represents love. Statues of hearts line the bridge, where people can place a Lovelock. Jamie Jared owns a retail store in downtown Bixby. She sells Lovelocks in her store, with the hope people will place them on the Harmony Bridge.

"I just think it's really neat how they incorporated that onto the bridge for people to go down there and have that special moment with their families,” Jared said.

The Harmony Bridge was recently redone in July 2021. Bixby has now turned its attention to completing its “Downtown Revitalization Project,” where new storefronts and businesses will join Jared in Downtown Bixby, off West Dawes Ave.

“I think that is very, very exciting. It's exciting for the community for them to see cute little Bixby is growing up so to speak, so I think it's neat for me to have my business down here and just help grow the town,” Jared said.

The project will be finished next year.
