Oktoberfest Back In Full Swing In Tulsa

Tulsa's Oktoberfest is in full swing this weekend celebrating Bavarian culture with music, food, drinks, and games.

The festival is named one of the top events of its kind in the country. Organizers said the goal is to make it as authentic to Bavarian culture as possible.

Modeled after the traditional Oktoberfest in Germany, you can be a part of the tradition this weekend at River West Festival Park.

You can enjoy entertainment from German bands and have a taste of Bavaria through bratwurst, strudel, and over 200 German and local beers on tap.

"So, this year, we've really upped our game in terms of tent decorations, if you come in and see the tents, I mean they are just incredibly gorgeously decorated. We have these brand-new cabanas that we built for a lot of our food vendors to go in and they're Bavarian style cedar cabanas,” said Games Committee Chair Ryan Howell.

Each night anyone can sign up to compete in teams of two. From bier barrel racing to the Mass Krug Relay or the Stein Hoist Challenge, you can try your hand at these competitions.

Howell said every year, organizers try to add even more of a genuine touch.

"We actually have an authenticity committee that frequently travels to Munich for research purposes to go to the original Oktoberfest there. And they document what practices they're doing, you know, how are they serving beer, how are they decorating the tent, what kind of activities do they do,” Howell said.
