Woman Accused Of Child Neglect After Death Of 4-Month-Old

A Tulsa woman is accused of child neglect after she fell asleep on a four-month-old, killing the infant, police said.

Police said Shanai Thomas was drunk when she fell asleep with the baby, rolled over on the baby, and found the baby dead the next morning.

Thomas slept with the infant on multiple occasions while intoxicated, according to police.

Thomas admitted that the infant was in bed with her and she attempted chest compressions to wake the infant up, police said.

Thomas has a history with DHS that documents alcohol and substance abuse dating back to April of 2021, police said.

Police said her boyfriend, Jorge Iglesias, told police he had moved Thomas off of their baby in the past. He told police Thomas didn't know what she was doing when she was drunk.

Iglesias has also been charged with child neglect after telling police that he would leave young children in the house to get away from Thomas when she was drunk.
