A gym in Tulsa is looking to spread the word about the health benefits of boxing.
They said the sport is a way to get in shape, learn self-defense skills, and gain self-confidence by trying something new.
Brant Dennison is a fitness trainer at Hardbody Gym and recently moved back to Green Country. He's hoping to help spread the word about boxing in Tulsa.
"The good thing about boxing is it can be different things for different people. Whatever you need it to be, so it's kind of cool,” Dennison said.
He oftentimes teaches beginner boxers who are brand new at the sport. But as they learn, he said he'll see confidence and self-esteem grow.
"There's endless benefits. And like I tell people all the time, it's different for different people. You know, if some people want to do it for cardio to get in shape, which it can put you in some of the best shape of your life if you take it serious enough. For other people, it's a stress reliever. They want to let off steam at the end of the day if they're going through something. They just need to let some steam off or let some aggression out at the end of the day. It's good for that too,” Dennison said.
The sport helps you work up a sweat while building character at the same time.
Dennison said if you're looking for a way to switch up your cardio routine than a typical treadmill run, boxing is a great start.
"It's an all-around thing. Not only does it get you in really good shape and get you fit, but it does also build self-confidence. Doing stuff you've never done before and stepping out of your comfort zone,” Dennison said.
