For the first time, the Tulsa Area United Way is offering a virtual option for its fourth Annual 'Day of Caring' Food Drive.

The nonprofit is making it easier for the community to participate in the drive, which is being held April 16th through April 21st online and in person.

There are 11 drop-off locations, including at the Supermercados Morales stores and Oasis Fresh Market in North Tulsa.

Alison Anthony, the President of the Tulsa Area United Way, says one in five children in Oklahoma doesn't have enough food and she is hoping the drive can help change that.

Last year, the organization received nearly 35,000 pounds of food.

Anthony says the virtual food drive is similar to buying groceries online and says many people in the community have been pushing for an option like this.

“Once we started hearing that we tried to come up with a solution. And at the same time many of us our buying our groceries online and living that way post-pandemic particularly. So it just made sense,” Anthony said.

With the virtual option now available the need for volunteers is even greater to help sort the food. Anthony hopes the public will consider donating because it is needed with the rising costs of food and pandemic snap benefits ending.
