The Gilcrease Museum is giving Tulsans the chance to see exhibits from the museum while it's closed for construction.

It's through a program called "Gilcrease In Your Neighborhood."

Gilcrease In Your Neighborhood is taking the art from the museum, replicating it, and putting it on display in dozens of locations around Tulsa.

"The museum is still under construction, and while we're under construction, we still want to serve the community, so we're really excited to be able to offer programs like this here at The Gathering Place," said Alison Rossi, the Director of Learning and Community Engagement for the Gilcrease Museum.

Rossi says it's more than just showing off these pieces.

"Part of Gilcrease In Your Neighborhood is not just those art installations that you see at those different sites, but it's also about the programming that we offer as part of that,” said Rossi. “So opportunities for people to get creative and to connect with one another through workshops, through festivals, through talks."

She hopes these exhibits can inspire people’s imagination.

"They can come to Gilcrease for a place for their family to enjoy different activities together, that we can inspire creativity that they already have within them, and that they can enjoy one another and the natural world around us," said Rossi.

Rossi says that while having a building is important, what's more important is giving the art back to the people who live in this city.

"We belong to the residents of the Tulsa area,” said Rossi. “We may not have a building right now, but a museum is a lot more than a building. A museum is a place where we bring people together to be creative, to promote wellness in our community, and to have fun."

In the meantime, Gilcrease In Your Neighborhood will continue to bring art to the people of Tulsa.

The painting, “An Island of Redbuds on the Cimarron” by Brummett Echohawk, is on display in 31 locations around Tulsa and will be swapped for another painting at the end of May.
