A business owner was at work across the street from a Bixby gas station when police say a man was firing off a gun before officers shot and killed him Saturday.

Buster Brown, who owns Bixby Bicycles across the street, says he wasn't sure at first what he heard.

"Sometimes, big dump trucks, their tail gates smash together or the dump trucks doing the trash pick-up, will have a loud sound, but this was three shots back-to-back-to-back roughly 6:30, 6:31 or so, sitting at the coffee bar having a coffee," said Brown.

Once Brown decided he wasn't in danger, he went out the door to see what was going on.

"Then a handful of other shots sounded like about ten maybe, can't confirm that or anything, about ten shots probably, and then I got my phone, and ran out the front door to see what was going on, saw the police over there and watched it kind of unfold," said Brown.

He says he's grateful Bixby Police got there so quickly.

"Just watching what was happening, seeing the Bixby Police step into action, and assuming everything went great on their side, they did their job," said Brown.

Brown says it's upsetting to see things like this happening in Bixby.

"It's kind of migrating down here to the little town of Bixby,” said Brown. “As we grow, it's going to happen, so just kind of got to be aware."

But he says he will continue to protect himself and be aware of his surroundings, especially who comes in and out of his store.

"As far as the shooting goes, no we won't, nothing any different,” said Brown. “Just got to pay attention when somebody walks in the door, you kind of, who are they? Are they a customer? And so far, we've been very fortunate and very blessed."

On Tuesday, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as 48-year-old Jeremy Shane Brown.

They are investigating.
