Investigators came out to the scene at Prairie Bell Road and Old Morris Highway because of a call about a man with a knife.

The OSBI said the call came in around 3 p.m. Monday.

Agents said something happened in the doorway of the home that led at least one deputy to shoot the man, who died.

Law enforcement sources said the suspect was 43-year-old Matthew Guffey, who records show was just released from prison May 5.

Guffey was most recently sentenced to prison for 10 years, but served less than four. He also has convictions for burglary, larceny and false declaration of ownership at a pawn shop.

Investigators have not released any information about what led to Guffey having a knife or who might have been home at the time.

The deputy involved in the shooting will be OK, authorities said.

OSBI said they will release more information when they can.
