Inola Family Loses Everything After Fire Burns Home To The Ground

An Inola couple that has a two-year-old daughter with cancer is now dealing with the loss of everything they own after a fire burned their home to the ground Monday.

Luckily, no one was inside the trailer when it caught fire because the fire marshal said they wouldn't have survived.

Benny Terry was working when he got a phone call from his grandma, Kathy Jean Terry, who is also his neighbor.

She told him his house had burned down.

"We were just settling down watching TV, so my grandson went out on the porch and said my brother's yard's on fire," Kathy Jean said.

Kathy was panicking, but firefighters told her to make sure Benny wasn't racing to the scene because the home was lost. 

"The fireman had me call him back to tell him not to worry because it's gone because they didn't want him to wreck," she said.

Benny had two cats and two dogs. Only one dog survived.

"I lost everything, everything I paid for, everything I've strived to achieve," Benny said. "I lost my pets. My daughter has cancer, and she lost all of her things."

As he tries to figure out what to do, people in the community are showing their love and support. 

"It means a lot that the community would reach out and actually want to help me," he said.

Benny says the fire marshal is still investigating, and they will know what started the fire in about a week.
