A nearly $1 million project is underway in downtown Wagoner to revitalize an area where buildings burned down.
Leaders are hoping to bring the area near South Main in downtown Wagoner back to life. This comes after a fire in 2017 forced businesses to leave.
The development is called “The Junction." The entertainment venue will feature stand up comedy, poetry, live bands, and dance performances.
There will also be a green space area that will lead into Wagoner’s ongoing streetscape project.
The Junction will highlight local entrepreneurs with pop-up shops for small businesses.
City leaders said this venture is key for supporting their future growth.
"It will help people support our local businesses. It’s important for the community to show them we care because they care about us. They are the ones that are sponsoring our youth sports, our every little thing we have going as communities," said Kristen Mallett with City of Wagoner.
The city plans to use some of the original bricks from the previous businesses that were operating in that area before the fire.
The goal is to have this project done by June 2024.
