The Tulsa Health Department is releasing a new report highlighting successes and advancements. It also details some of the department's goals for the future.
A major initiative THD’s been investing in is improving health equity. Leaders said it’s also a big focus nationwide.
The Healthy Communities, Resilient Futures: Public Health Annual Review data runs from July 1, 2022 until June 30, 2023.
During the past fiscal year, THD has received $8.3 million in public health infrastructure grant from the CDC.
This has helped them invest in their public health workforce, which helps increase the number of people they can serve.
The department said it is dealing with the same challenge as many other health organizations, which is finding qualified people to fill the many jobs open in health care.
Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart said the department is continuing to navigate the effects of the pandemic as well.
"Our number one priority is stress and mental health. So trying to figure out how public health works in a mental health space we’ve never functioned before has been quite challenging. We have great mental health priorities in Tulsa Counties and we hope to find a path forward," said Dr. Dart.
The Tulsa Health Department is also working to improve healthy and affordable housing to make an impact on residents most at need.
