Tulsa Police said an officer shot a suspect who robbed a woman at gunpoint at a motel overnight.

The incident happened near the Tudor House Inn, near Archer and North Sheridan, police said. Police cleared the scene after nearly six hours of gathering evidence.

This started just after midnight on Wednesday when police said a woman showed up to the motel to purchase a bicycle, and a man tried to rob her at gunpoint.

After the suspect emptied the woman's purse, she tried to leave and that's when the suspect fired a shot and barricaded himself inside a motel room, police said.

Police said the suspect fired another round once officers arrived at the scene, and he refused to come out for about two and a half hours.

"Officers observed him when we arrived and he ran into a room and initially did not comply with commands to come out. Eventually he did and ran from officers, and that's when the officer involved shooting occurred," said Captain Matt Arnold, Tulsa Police.

The officer involved in the shooting is on administrative leave, according to police.

The suspect's injuries are not life threatening and the woman was not injured, police said. The suspect has not been identified at this time.
