The City of Tulsa has several warming shelters ready ahead of the freezing weather coming our way. But the city said other organizations can also set up temporary shelters for those in need.

While places like John 3:16 Mission and the Salvation Army are ready to go, overcrowding can be a potential issue.

Different organizations can set up as temporary shelters as long as they reach out to the city and follow a certain process.

Those processes include calling the fire marshal for an inspection, getting a permit to show how long the shelter will operate, and also making sure the organization has resources like food, staffing, and security.

"We are very reliant on these new volunteer groups that will step up. These different communities and civic organizations that may want to step in and just aren't aware of how to help," said Joseph Kralice, /Executive Director of Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency.

The shelters can always use coats, hats, scarves, blankets, and warmers for their clients.
