The No. 9 Oklahoma State softball team pounded out 13 hits and three home runs to fuel a dominant 9-1 run-rule victory over No. 10 UCLA at Easton Stadium Sunday. It was the first run-rule victory in a true road game against an opponent ranked in the NFCA top 10 in OSU history.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 5-0. UCLA fell to 2-3.
The Cowgirls scored in the first with a deep single to right field from Caroline Wang that scored Claire Timm.
In the second, Megan Bloodworth blasted a two-run home run to center to extend the Cowgirls' advantage to 3-0.
In the fifth inning, the Cowgirls scored six runs with two outs. Included in that barrage were a two-run home run from Katie Lott, a solo shot from Rosie Davis and a two-run blast from Tallen Edwards. Karli Godwin capped the scoring with a two-run double.
Lexi Kilfoyl and the Cowgirl defense retired the Bruins in order in the bottom of the fifth to clinch OSU's fourth run-rule victory in five games to open the 2024 season.
Starting pitcher Ivy Rosenberry pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one before Kilfoyl entered in the third. Kilfoyl pitched three innings, striking out three Bruins and surrendering one hit.
OSU's nine-run outburst against the Bruins marked the most it has ever scored in a true road game against an opponent ranked in the top 10 of the NFCA poll.
OSU returns to action Friday at 9 a.m. CT. against No. 6 Georgia in the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida. The game will be streamed on ESPNU.
