Sand Springs Animal Welfare is looking for someone to take care of a dog that was rescued by a Sand Springs Police Officer last week. The dog's name is Charlie.

Charlie is getting used to his temporary home at the Sand Springs Animal Welfare.

"We were out on a call in the community for something completely unrelated, and Sand Springs Police Department was sent out to assist us, and while we were there, we saw him," said Coty Vincent, an animal welfare officer.

Vincent and Sand Springs Police Lieutenant Jerrod Raglin earned Charlie's trust and brought him to the shelter because he needed medical attention.

"Sand Springs Police Department Lt. Raglin was the one who came out,” said Vincent. “He actually got on the ground, used his gentle voice and had wet dog food in his hand to help try and catch him. I saw him; he was missing a lot of hair. So, as you can see, his face is completely bare, his skin is irritated and scaly."

Charlie has mange, which is caused by mites attacking his skin. It's not contagious, but Coty says it may take a while for Charlie's fur to grow back.

"This has been going on a long time to get him in this severe of a condition," Vincent said.

Despite dealing with so much, Coty says Charlie is a gentle dog, who is just looking for pats and love.

"He's been absolutely wonderful."

Coty is looking for someone to foster Charlie. Because of his medical condition, he needs more attention--like a bath a couple of times a week and needs someone to give him his medication. If you're interested, call the Sand Springs Animal Welfare.
