People in a Broken Arrow neighborhood near West Florence Street and South Aspen Avenue are coming together to help a grieving family after police say a teenage boy strangled his sister to death, then killed himself.

Neighbors said they cannot imagine what the family is going through, so they are doing anything they can to help the grieving loved ones after the murder-suicide on Feb. 11 that took the lives of a 17-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister.

Police have not released the names of the Broken Arrow students involved.

Robert Owens and his family have lived here for 25 years. He said the feeling has been somber.

"Mostly somber out of concern for them and their wellbeing, the family,” said Robert.

He said the two teens and their parents had been his neighbors for about two and a half years.

"They've been a great family, great neighbors. I'm going to miss them coming and going and talking to them in the front yard,” said Robert.

Robert's daughter, Hannah, set up a GoFundMe account to help the family.

She is also going door to door, handing out fliers with information on the account, and has been in contact with the teenagers' relatives.

"It's a family that's grieving and they need help, and my goal is to just take that stress off of them and put them more at ease during this time of grieving,” said Hannah.

Neighbors are also organizing meals, collecting money for funeral flowers, and fundraising for a charity of the family's choosing.

"I just hope that our community can come together like they already have and do something beautiful for this family,” said Hannah. “If people are not able to donate, the least that they can do is either share it or just say a prayer for them."

While police are still investigating and waiting on autopsy reports, neighbors say they are praying for the family and hugging their own a little tighter.

"It brings to light what's important in life for all of us and we can't say that we understand but certainly that we care,” said Robert.
