You can hear Jeremie Poplin weekday afternoons on 1170 The Blitz. He talks about anything that's going on in the world of sports, including the Sooners, Cowboys, and his beloved 49ers.
Jeremie joined us on Six In The Morning to talk about the honor of being named Oklahoma's Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.
"Well, funny story, when they called I actually said, 'are you sure you have the right person?' when they said that I had won the award. And, you know, as someone that's been in this business for 20 years, and you know, we're kind of down in our own little part. You know, I don't strive to be Sportscaster of the Year by any means. I just come in and do what I love and the passion that I have for radio each and every single day. But to come away with this honor, you know, it kind of makes you feel in a way a little bit validated for everything that you've done over 20 years of talking, you know, multiple hours per day. So I can't believe that I won in the category that I won in against the people that were nominated with me. But it is, it's an incredible honor. And I'm completely proud and happy that we've done it here under the Griffin umbrella," Poplin said.
"It started, you know, from the bottom as everyone does. You know, you're board up and things from NASCAR in the middle of July, to arena football games, you know, where you're just running the board. And you get an opportunity to start as a producer and start working your way up. And before you know it, I was cohosting a show in the early 2000s. And I've had a lot of great cohosts to to get me to this point. And it's been fun each and every single day," Poplin said.
"(Don't) take yourself too seriously, especially in radio. We're supposed to be entertaining. You know, X's and O's kind of takes care of itself, but be entertaining. But I've always felt like if you can't laugh about yourself, then you probably don't need to be in this. Have a sense of humor. Don't take everything so seriously," Poplin said.
