A Tulsa woman is grieving after her brother was shot and killed earlier this week.
Jeremy Wilkes was shot and killed, and police arrested his girlfriend, Kerri Jo Stevens.
Jamie Hill says her brother was a funny guy who always liked to be the star of the room. She says she doesn't know the circumstances that led to her brother getting shot, but she says no one deserves to die like that.
“He was goofy, he was funny, he liked to always be the class clown and star of the room. He liked to go fishing, he loved his kids,” said Hill.
Hill says she and her brother were super close growing up. She says Jeremy leaves behind three sons who are struggling to understand why their dad is gone.
"I can't imagine. He was lying there in the cold, by himself, and there was nobody around to help him. I think that's the worst part. Just knowing he was calling for help and nobody was there,” said Hill.
Tulsa Police say they found Jeremy lying in a yard Tuesday night with a gunshot wound to the chest.
They say a blood trail led from the yard back to a kitchen in a nearby home and they say Kerri Jo Stevens lived at that home and witnesses heard her and Jeremy arguing, then heard a gunshot.
Officers called Stevens and told her to come back to the scene, but they say Stevens said her phone was dying and hung up.
"I was shocked, honestly. You know you see this stuff on the news all the time but you never think it is going to be your family member, or your friend,” said Hill. "I think that makes it worse for me because it is somebody he trusted. It makes it a lot harder actually."
Hill says she didn't know her brother's girlfriend and says they had only been dating for about six months.
"I just want everyone to keep his memory in their hearts and just love your family. You never know when they aren't going to be there anymore,” said Hill.
Records show Stevens has prior convictions in state and federal court. She's now in the Tulsa County Jail charged with First Degree Murder.
