Everett Titterington, of Milford, Iowa, died aboard the USS Oklahoma during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Titterington was a Fireman 1st Class, a career path that fought fires, performed rescues, and was geared toward engineering.

He was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma in March 1940.

The USS Oklahoma was struck by multiple torpedoes, causing the ship to capsize and resulting in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including F1c Titterington.

The remains of the unknown men were buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency received authorization to exhume the unknown remains and reexamine them using advances in forensic technology.

Laboratory analysis established one set of those remains as F1c Titterington.

Titterington will be buried at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 9 in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
