We're in the last days of summer and as fall approaches many of us will be looking to lose a little weight ahead of the Holiday season. But before you begin any new diets Fitness expert Michael Wittig joined News On 6 with weight loss myths you'll want to avoid.
Myths
"You don't have to be on a diet. Okay, so there's all these crazy diets out there. Some of them are a lot harder than others, and I'm not saying they're all not helpful, but you don't need to do a crazy diet to lose weight. You just need to eat in a balanced calorie deficit...You don't have to take away so much to get healthy,"
Myth 2. "Supplements are a must"
"They are not you do not need supplements to lose weight or get healthy. They can some help. Supplements can help a little bit, but if you're not eating right, and if you're not exercising, they're a complete waste of money and time"
Myth 3. "Avoid all carbs"
"Carbs are not bad. We don't have to avoid carbs. There are different types of carbs. Of course. You can eat some good carbs, or you can eat a bunch of sugar and candy, which is also carbs. Carbs are needed macronutrients. We just have to balance it and maybe eat a little less. But we don't have to avoid them."
Myth 4. "Healthy Foods are expensive"
You know what's expensive? Starbucks and going out, and I don't mean to hate on Starbucks, I mean, but just going somewhere and spending money on fancy drinks or going out to eat on a daily basis, that's expensive. Eating natural, healthy foods is really not expensive in comparison.
Myth 5: "Do cardio to lose weight"
"You don't have to do cardio to lose weight. It's helpful. It's good for heart health. It can help you burn additional calories. I help my son lose 30 pounds by not doing one minute of cardio. It's about eating right and getting some maybe some steps in, or just being active throughout the day."
