Support local children who have been diagnosed with cancer by taking part in the Gold4Kids Walk and 5K Saturday, September 8 at River Parks West. Events begin at 8:30 a.m.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Gold4Kids Cancer Foundation of Tulsa has a mission to help children fighting cancer and their families, according to Executive Director Candin Hobbs.
Hobbs, who is the mother of a childhood cancer survivor, said the 501c3 organization provides funds for projects at the local pediatric oncology clinic and the Children's Oncology Group. They serve northeast Oklahoma with efforts to improve the lives of children with cancer.
"We can already see a real difference in the lives of real children with cancer here in Tulsa," says Hobbs said.
"If you have never witnessed a child fighting cancer, this day will change your life."
Registration is $10 for the walk and $35 for the 5K. Children under 16 can walk for free. Participants are encouraged to wear a silly hat in support of the kids.
All funds from the event go to the organization's programs, Hobbs said.
The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. with a program honoring young cancer fighters and survivors at 9:45 a.m. They also honor those children who have died.
You'll have a chance to donate blood to the Oklahoma Blood Institute that morning as well.
