Historic Tulsa Hotel Has Room Dedicated To ‘The Outsiders’ Author

A lot of people are fascinated by two things in Tulsa – Route 66 and The Outsiders. Now, visitors can enjoy both in one place.

Over the weekend rapper Danny Boy O'Connor, who's in the process of resurrecting The Outsiders House, tweeted, “FYI The Campbell Hotel built in 1927 on Route 66 Tulsa, Oklahoma has a room dedicated to The Outsiders Author S.E. Hinton. How’s that for cool? #SEHINTONRULES.”

And it’s not just one cool room, there are several according to Diane Morrison, who is in her fourth year as manager of the Campbell Hotel.

One room she showed us was the Oil Baron Room. It’s the only one of the hotel’s 26 rooms with two double beds, so it’s popular.

"We get a lot of international travelers from overseas," Morrison said.

Recently, she said folks from Germany, Australia, China and Japan stopped by the hotel. People traveling Route 66.

Built in 1927, the small, historic hotel along Route 66 operated as the Casa Loma Hotel through the '50s. The Campbell Hotel since 2011.

"Let’s go down to the S.E. Hinton Room, we'll let you see it," Morrison said.

Inside, it's S.E. Hinton wherever you look - posters from her four movies and a cast photo from The Outsiders.

And, there's a Route 66 Suite. Very popular with travelers.
