Longest Totality Of Eclipse Will Be In Missouri

The total eclipse began a little after 11 a.m. for people in Oregon, but the longest totality will be in Missouri. 

News On 6's Steve Shaw is currently at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri, and of all the Columbia, Missouri public schools, Rock Bridge will be the closest to the center line of the "Path of Totality."

It will be a 70-mile wide swath, extending from Oregon on the West Coast, then running diagonally across the United States, leaving through South Carolina.  

A total solar eclipse like this one hasn't happened since 1918. 

Columbia's school district bought 21,000 pairs of special glasses so students, faculty, and volunteers can safely watch this historic solar eclipse.

The total eclipse in Columbia, Missouri, will last 2 minutes 41 seconds.  Oklahomans will be able to see about 88 percent of the eclipse.
