The Broken Arrow Chamber announced plans for a four-story multi-use building planned for the north end of the Rose District. The approximately $18 million building will include space for retail, office and apartment living.

"This is going to be an A-plus community," said developer Steve Easley.

Broken Arrow's city council approved the project's economic development Tuesday night, clearing the way to move forward. City leaders said they're trying to build up the north end of the Rose District, and they expect this building to serve as a catalyst for that.

"You just have to get the word out about how great it is to live in that type of environment where you're close to everything," said Michael Spurgeon, city manager.

The City said they'll start work next spring in a lot along Main Street between Detroit and Elgin. It will be the biggest project ever in The Rose District, city leaders say.

The development is 120,000 square feet with retail sites and offices on the first floor. There will be about 90 housing units on the second, third and fourth floor, according to a news release.

The developer and city leaders didn't have exact rates on how much the apartments would cost, but the developer says it will be similar to the cost of other homes in the area.

"We're gonna work toward the market that is here," Easley said. "The market that's here and thriving and energetic is a young, aggressive, professional market."

"This is a game changer for both the Rose District and Broken Arrow," said Wes Smithwick, President of the BA Chamber and EDC.

"This is different from anything we have seen in our community, it is an entire city block being transformed from the ground up."

The city says it plans to finish work on the building by early 2019,
