Canadian actor and television host Alan Thicke, best known for his role as the father in the sitcom “Growing Pains,” has died, his publicist confirms to CBS News. Thicke was 69.
Thicke’s publicist said he died of a heart attack, but did not provide any further details.
He’s survived by his three sons, including singer Robin, Brennan, and Carter, as well as his wife Tanya.
On the 80s sitcom “Growing Pains” Thicke played father and psychiatrist, Jason Seaver.
Thicke most recently appeared on season two of “Fuller House,” on Netflix. He is also known for his appearance on “How I Met Your Mother,” and for hosting a variety of shows and events including the Disney Christmas parade, the “Celebrity Cooking Showdown,” and “Dancing Pros Live.”
Thicke was also a song composer. He worked on theme songs for several popular sitcoms, including the theme song for “Diff’rent Strokes.”
