Chase, Crash Witnessed By Tulsa Mayor During Police Ride Along

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum was riding with police Friday evening when officers got involved in pursuit which ended in a fiery crash and arrest.

The mayor was on the scene along with a national television crew.

Police say at about 7:20 p.m. an officer attempted to stop an SUV for a traffic violation in the 1000 block of South Hudson.  

Police say the Dodge Durango sped off leading police on a chase, before ending in a crash involving a Nissan Altima and Chevy pickup at 4th Place and Yale.  . 

The truck caught fire after people in it got out safely.  Two children, younger than 6 years old were inside the car when it was hit, but they too were not injured.

"The subject ran a red light, striking one vehicle then striking another vehicle after he went through the intersection.  One of the vehicles caught on fire, and the suspect got out and tried to run at that time but our officers were able to apprehend him," said TPD Cpl. C.J. Jackson  

The driver of the Durango, 41-year-old Scott Slinger got out and ran after the crash but was quickly caught and arrested.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum was riding with police at the time.  

He plans on riding with police officers every month, saying it vital for city leaders to see first-hand what police and fire deal with daily.

"I think a lot of the time we think about police or fire, but here you see they are working side-by-side all over our city to keep Tulsa safe," said Mayor G.T. Bynum.

Police say Slinger was not injured and was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints including eluding, possession of marijuana and hit and run.  

Jail records show he has court appearance set for December 16th.

A television network crew from A&E's "Live PD" was also riding along with police and was at the crash scene as well.
