Green Country marching bands took top awards at the St. Louis Super Regional Saturday night - including the number one position. The Pride of Broken Arrow marching band won its 11th Bands of American super regional title with performances at the Edward Jones Dome.
The Pride finished with a score of 94.5 in finals. Owasso finished third with a score of 89.
Other Tulsa-area bands that made the 14-group finals were Union: fifth place with 88.2; Jenks placed 13th with 81.2 and Bixby finished 14th with 80.15.
It was the most bands of any state that made it to the finals. Missouri was next closest with three bands competing.
"The students did an amazing job Saturday night," said Broken Arrow Director of Bands Darrin Davis. "Northeast Oklahoma has many quality marching bands, and to put five in finals says a lot about the hard work and dedication in these programs."
The Pride of Broken Arrow's show this year is called "Age of Discovery." Props include pedal cars driven by the color guard and used as a stage by members of the brass section. Music includes the theme from "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Thus Spoke Zarathustra." They also had a piece written especially for the show.
