Police arrested a 61-year-old Tulsa man for allegedly shooting, killing his neighbor Friday evening.
They say he is Stanley Majors.
Officers responded to a shooting in the 9300 block of 85th East Avenue just before 7 p.m. They arrived to find a 37-year-old man who had been shot. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police Sgt. Dave Walker said after talking with witnesses, they learned the victim's neighbor, Stanley Majors was the suspect and had run away after the shooting.
Officers located and arrested Majors outside the Hardesty Library in the 8000 block of East 93rd Street where he was hiding behind a tree.
Sgt. Walker said Stanley Majors was awaiting trial on an aggravated assault charge that involved the mother of the victim last year.
He says police had been called to the neighborhood many times because of complaints that Majors had been acting aggressively towards his neighbors.
Sgt. Walker added they have not yet been able to interview Majors about the incident and have not determined a motive.
Police say they recovered a gun believed used in the shooting.
Stanley Majors was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a first-degree murder complaint and is being held without bond pending a court appearance set August 14.
Police said this is Tulsa's 39th homicide of 2016.
