The Grand River Dam Authority is reporting that a 17-year-old boy drowned in Grand Lake on Saturday night.
The teen, who was from Kansas, was swimming with friends near Woodland Shores when he began to struggle in the water, GRDA said.
Authorities said he called for help and his friends tried to assist him before he went underwater for a third time.
“With the help of other witnesses, they were able to eventually get him to shore where a nurse in the area started CPR before emergency responders could arrive,” GRDA said in a news release.
The boy could not be revived.
According to investigators, no drug or alcohol use or foul play is suspected.
The body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office.
