A fire chief said a fire in a wooded area may have been intentionally set.

Several crews are working to put out flames on Brooken Mountain near Eufaula. They’re concerned the fire could fuel and more north, threatening nearby homes.

There are more than 50 homes in that area, and the fire chief said the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office is prepared to ask people to get out.

There are a dozen departments working the fire that's burned thousands of acres; 65 firefighters are working.

Fire chief, Danny Choate, said the fire has overrun them because of the rocky and wooded terrain.

He also said at least three mobile homes have burned so far.

"The way it's coming up these valleys, and the wind just funneling down through them, it's going north at rapid speed. As you can see, the terrain is rocky and wooded. We can't get any equipment into it, so all we can do is just go around and protect the houses," Choate said.

Homeowners, like Becky Davenport, to the north of there have been monitoring the fire and are taking precaution.

“We can load the animals up and leave if we have to. But we just try to watch out for each other. I mean it's just really bad up here," she said.

Firefighters said it’s their third grass fire to work in the past 48 hours and it's looking like another long night.
