You’ve heard about the Angel Trees at the mall where you can get Christmas gifts for kids and senior citizens in need, but did you know there is a similar tree for dogs and puppies?
Mardi Gras is one of many dogs available for adoption at Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue.
We met at The Dog Dish in Utica Square because they have one of Legacy of Hope's Holiday Trees.
"Right now we have about 12 of these in the Tulsa area," said Mary Beth Gallagher with Legacy of Hope.
They are, mostly in veterinary clinics around the area.
Each ornament on the trees is a picture of one of the dogs in their system, and on the back is a list of things the rescue could use - collars leashes, pop-up crates; things like that.
"Right now in the rescue we have about 60 puppies," Gallagher said. “60 puppies and about 40 adult dogs."
Legacy said they have developed a kind of rescue network.
"In 2011 we started with four foster homes, now we have almost 30," Gallagher said.
She said out about 300 dogs a year; she also said a few more volunteers would be a nice Christmas present.
