It has been almost a year in the making, and on Saturday, the community broke ground on extensive improvements for B.C. Franklin Park in Tulsa.
The groundbreaking will kick off construction on the plans envisioned by area residents for the last several months.
The park will include a Black Wall Street themed playground, adult outdoor fitness center, community garden and two basketball courts.
"We brought the community together and we had a bus tour, and we wanted to make sure the wishes of the community were seen,” advocate Vanessa Hall-Harper said. “I think we did that today and I'm proud. This is a proud moment."
Franklin Park also will receive new benches, shelters and picnic tables.
The Park was identified for new improvements as part of the Tulsa Parks strategic plan.
