A Green Country church put its large congregation to work helping some of Oklahoma's Own. It was Asbury United Methodist's fifth year of taking part in a Day of Service.

More than 1,000 volunteers went to work at 30 different service sites all across the city.

Sign-up stations lined the walls at Asbury United Methodist Sunday morning as congregation members volunteered for service projects scattered across the city. The projects ranged from helping beautify buildings to feeding hungry mouths.

The church hosts days of service regularly, but this day is special - because it's the largest event every year. The whole thing was inspired by the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

It's a day church members say they needed a way to channel their grief. To the church, serving others is what they are meant to do.

More than half of the congregation at the church Sunday helped somewhere. It's a fact Senior Pastor Tom Harrison is proud of, but  he says there's always room to do more.
