A 3-year-old boy was rushed to surgery after being wounded in an east Tulsa shooting early Saturday morning.

Police say a man fired a gun into an apartment building at the Meadows Apartments, 2824 South 115th East Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. Several rounds entered the apartment and shell casings were found scattered outside, according to police at the scene.

"The baby was conscious," said Corporal Jeremy Noland, Tulsa Police. "Appears to be an injury to the leg, possibly. It appears the child will be OK."

The father of the young boy was the suspected target of the shooting, Corporal Mark Shelton said later Saturday. The father had been to a party and gotten into an argument with someone else.

The father got home around 2:15 a.m., and a few minutes later someone knocked on the family's front door. The mother answered and said a young man was standing there asking for someone named Isaac.

When she asked who the man was, he said, "It's the homie," and walked off.

"Within seconds, she heard gunfire outside which penetrated the upstairs of the apartment," Shelton said.

The boy was upstairs with his father, and a bullet lodged in his right calf, according to police. He was taken into surgery to have the bullet removed and is expected to be OK.

The shooter is described as a black male, about 24 years old. He's 5'6" and 145 pounds. He was dressed in a white hat, burgundy sweater and black shorts with a white stripe.
