Three friends are headed to Sturgis, South Dakota in a unique way this summer. It's a 50th birthday trip the men are excited to celebrate.
Mikel Janitz owns a 1947 Harley Davidson WLA motorcycle. He and his two friends, Pete Eichenberger and Doug English, are heading for South Dakota this summer on a "we're turning 50 let's go do something fun" trip.
"Let's just take the old bikes, it'll be an adventure. We'll go see the world's largest hand dug well, we'll go to Dodge City so we can say 'let's get the Hell out of Dodge,'" Janitz said.
They'll continue north through parts of Colorado, and Nebraska and into South Dakota.
English plans to ride his vintage-looking Russian bike complete with side-car.
"This is a 1995 model but they haven't changed the design since 1939," he said.
They are taking a nearly 70-year-old Harley and a new, but looks older, Russian bike a couple of thousand miles, but the men aren't completely crazy. Pete, biker number three, is going to ride his modern motorcycle. He'll be able to make parts runs or go get help if something goes wrong.
They are celebrating their 50th birthday by going to the 74th Black Hills Motor Classic in Sturgis, South Dakota.
