A Tulsa man battling with cancer said thieves kicked him while he was down. They stole, not only his sense of security, but his ride to treatment.
Dennis Davis was on his way out the door for his chemotherapy when he discovered thieves had stolen the custom wheels right off his truck.
Davis has lived in a quiet midtown community for three years. When he got his 2011 Silverado nine months ago, he never imagined the truck would end up on blocks in his driveway.
"The hardest thing is, I have never had any problems, and you got that peace of mind that nothing is going to happen and you don't have anymore," he said.
He also doesn't have the custom 20-inch rims, the Michelin tires that were on them, or even the lug nuts.
"You're talking five grand to replace it, and I would've never guessed that in a million years," Davis said.
He doesn't have the cash to replace the rims, because 20 hours of cancer treatment weekly has prevented him from working. That's left him lots of time to think, and he has theories on how the truck's wheels and tires were taken.
"I went to bed at one, my neighbors were up at five, so I figure that it was between 1:00 and 5:00 where they come in, zap, and they was gone," he said.
He was hoping for good medical news, but instead of looking for the doctor's help, he soon learned he needed police.
"My daughter come over to pick up and I thought she was teasing saying my truck was on blocks, and so when I walked out the door and seen it, it just kind of totally blowed my mind," said Davis.
He has no doubt what type of people they are. They even knocked over his driveway lights on the way out.
"They've got some of the biggest cahones I've ever seen," he said. "To come in and take it, and put the time to put it on blocks on top of that and takeoff with the tires."
Davis filed a police report, but since no one saw the thieves, police are hoping the pictures will prompt people at home to be on the lookout.
