Winter weather returned to a wide area of northeastern Oklahoma Sunday, and the region will see more snow starting Tuesday.
The forecast calls for a second round of winter weather Tuesday according to News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone. He says additional winter storm systems are forecast to impact eastern Oklahoma Thursday and Saturday as well.
Crone says the next system should arrive early Tuesday bringing with it significant snowfall across south central and eastern Kansas as well as northeastern Oklahoma.
Areas north and west of Tulsa could see four to six inches of snow. Closer to Tulsa snow accumulations could be two to four inches and with less snow falling farther south.
Meteorologist Dick Faurot said temperatures will most likely stay below freezing Tuesday and the rest of the week doesn't show a sign of thawing.
He says there may be a few breaks from the front on Wednesday, but Thursday through Saturday has a chance of snow each day.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Tulsa for Nowata, Osage, Pawnee Payne and Washington Counties and Chautauqua County in Kansas from late Monday night to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected by late Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory late Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday for Montgomery county in southeast Kansas, Benton, Sebastian and Washington counties in Arkansas. And Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Haskell, Hughes, Latimer, Le Flore, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Ottawa, Pittsburg, Rogers, Sequoyah, Tulsa and Wagoner counties in northeast Oklahoma.
The NWS says 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation are expected across the region.
