Monday Morning Update

Good morning.  The weekend was very nice but another storm system is rapidly approaching the state with shower and some thunderstorm chances.  Abundant low-level moisture is streaming northward this morning and a weak disturbance is allowing a few showers to move across the eastern sections of the state.  This precip will remain very light.  A higher probability will occur later tonight into Tuesday, then again early Wednesday morning.    Gusty South winds combined with cloudy conditions will keep our daytime temperatures in the 60s today.  Temperatures will remain cool Tuesday and even colder Wednesday.   

 Our next upper level storm system is organizing over western third of the nation this morning.  Moisture continues to move from the Baja a region across Texas into Oklahoma.  Some of this morning moisture was associated with tropical depression Sonia on the western Mexican coast.   Showers and a few rumbles of thunder will be common during the next 24 to 36 hours across eastern OK.  Pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall will be a possibility with this storm system, mainly Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  At this point no flash flood watch is posted for our area, but watches may be required for part of southern Oklahoma with this system. 

 We may have two distinct time periods for showers and thunderstorms:   The first occurring late today into tomorrow morning through afternoon.  Then a break is a possibility late Tuesday afternoon before additional thunderstorms or showers occur Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the actual cold front moves into the region.  

 The front is expected to clear the area sometime Wednesday but the exact timing could change.  GFS data suggest the front will clear early Wednesday morning euro data suggest the front will not clear the area until Wednesday midday.  Regardless of the exact timing of the frontal passage, temperatures are expected to grow colder Wednesday afternoon compared to Wednesday morning.  The warmer part of the day will be early Wednesday with falling temperatures Wednesday afternoon.  We anticipate temperatures remaining in the 50s for daytime highs Wednesday.   

 Pleasant the cool weather is expected to follow Thursday and Friday before a week system zips across the central plains Friday night into Saturday morning.  This should shove a surface boundary across northern OK Saturday morning with north winds but no precipitation.  A return to south winds would be expected Sunday into early next week.  Additional data supports a system nearing the state around next Wednesday.  

The official high temperature in Tulsa yesterday was 62 recorded at 12:47pm.    The normal daily high in Tulsa is 67 and the low is 44.   Daily records include a high of 86 from 1914 and a low of 21 from 1991.
