The Tulsa County jail is making room for more inmates.

Today the Sheriff's Office - which runs the jail - accepted a bid for 200 stackable beds - and all three county commissioners signed off on the deal. The bid was awarded to the Norix Group.

Last month, severe overcrowding forced the jail to turn away offenders arrested for most misdemeanor crimes.

It took about a week before the jail started accepting all offenders once again. Once they arrive, the new beds should help avoid another overcrowding crisis.

Commissioners also opened bidding for body armor, new Glock handguns and emergency lights for patrol cars, also for the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. In other business at the commissioners meeting, the Tulsa County Courthouse will have a newly re-modeled jury assembly room.
