Sometimes reporting the news leads to making it. News On 6 photographer Gary Kruse helped Tulsa Police arrest a hit-and-run driver early Saturday morning.
A woman driving northbound on Yale at about 3:30 a.m. was hit by a westbound car that ran a red light. The impact spun her black Toyota around and onto the sidewalk of Tally's Cafe while the other, silver car continued on 11th Street without stopping.
As police were investigating, they got a tip from the photographer who was driving towards the wreck, according to Sergeant Tim Lewandowski with the Tulsa Police Department.
"Channel 6 news photographer Gary Kruse spotted the silver vehicle leaving the scene," Lewandowski said. "He called in to police, and we located the vehicle and made an arrest of the driver."
Kruse spotted the hit-and-run driver near New Haven and watch him turn into a Fiesta Mart.
"He got out and walked over and tried to get into the store, but their doors were locked," Kruse said.
Police arrested 63-year-old Ranjitbhai Vallabhbhal Patel for hit and run and driving under the influence.
The woman in the black Toyota was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Lewandowski.
