It's been a mild December so far, but temperatures will be bottoming out soon.
Tulsa's Day Center for the Homeless is seeing that those without a home have what they need this winter.
"I try not to complain, I try to be grateful in every circumstance because I know it's gonna get better," homeless mother Maya Jones said.
If you judged a book by its cover, you'd never guess Jones doesn't have a home, at least not one that's permanent.
She moved to Tulsa from Michigan to go to Rhema Bible College. She graduated in May, but then was hit with a stretch of bad luck.
She's been on the streets with her 9- and 6-year-old sons since September.
"Housing plans fell through from the place we were going, so me and my two young sons are here, and you never know in life things happen and fall apart," Jones said.
Jones found her way to the Tulsa Day Center and Changing Lives Ministry.
It's there where she says she will turn her life in a new direction.
"I've been a single parent for a long time, so it's good to have ministries that can help encourage you and help you push forward," Jones said.
The ministry is giving an early Christmas to Jones' family and others who are homeless in the community.
"So many people all around Tulsa, all colors, came out today just to give back to these people and I just think it's such a special thing," said Bernadette McQueen of Changing Lives Ministry.
Last weekend, the Rogue Disc Club raised money through a Frisbee golf tournament.
The group was able to donate nearly 600 warm sweatshirts – as well as shoes, toiletry bags and toys with the money raised.
Basic necessities, yes -- but also enough to make for a Merry Christmas for hundreds who wouldn't have one otherwise.
"The true meaning of Christmas is all about Jesus, it's all about giving from your heart, it's all about reaching to other that are less fortunate and it's all about sharing the love of Christ to those that are hurting," McQueen said.
