Freshman guard James Woodard totaled game-highs of 27 points and 11 rebounds in leading Tulsa (4-1) to an 86-66 victory over a pesky Jackson State team in front of 4,134 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Senior Scottie Haralson added 16 points and fellow freshman Shaquille Harrison scored 12 points for the Hurricane. Jackson State (0-2) was led by Kelsey Howard with 25 points and 23 from Christian Williams. The Hurricane out-rebounded the Tigers 42-31 for the game, and shot nearly 30-percent better from the field in the second half at 63-percent and ended the game at 48-percent.
After leading by just five points at halftime and two points with just under 11 minutes to play, the Hurricane finished out the game by running off 33 points to JSU's 15 points in the final 10:36.
"It was a great team win and we just have to grind and get better," said Tulsa Head Coach Danny Manning.
Tulsa remains at home for a game this Saturday against the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at 3 p.m.
