Cherokee Nation Firedancers, Hospital Nurses Help Out In New Jersey

A crew of Cherokee Nation Firedancers and three employees from the W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah have returned from New Jersey after assisting with the Hurricane Sandy clean up.

"The firedancers are literally on the front lines. Whether helping our own citizens or others, the fire dancers will continue to be ambassadors of the tribe," said Daryk Meigs with the firedancers.

According to a news release from the Cherokee Nation, the firedancers traveled to Fort Dix, New Jersey and stayed ten days to help the Army with restoration efforts.

The three hospital employees who are nurses at W.W. Hastings Hospital were deployed to assist displaced residents with their medical needs.

The nurses helped Hurricane Sandy victims staying at a shelter at the Middlesex County College gym in New Jersey.
