Friday Morning Update

The front moved across the area yesterday afternoon but it's today that we'll reap the benefits from the not as hot air.  A surface ridge of high pressure is building down into the upper Midwest and will bring northeast winds around 10 to 15 mph for a few hours. Dry air has moved across the area and this is allowing morning lows to drop into the lower to mid-60s across NE Ok and some lower 70s across the southern third of the region.  Afternoon highs will be from 92 to 96 today with highs Saturday back near the mid-90s, but not after morning lows will drop into the lower 60s Saturday morning.  Sunday's temps will start in the lower to mid-70s but move to near 100 before a slight chance of storms will occur.  

The pattern will support a chance for a few showers or storms across the northern part of the state Sunday into early Monday as a surface low forms across northwestern OK.  This Sun-Mon system could mean a few isolated storms early Sunday morning, and then a chance for a few small clusters of storms Sunday evening into early Monday.  Monday morning most of the storms would be across extreme Eastern or southeastern OK.  A frontal boundary may slide across part of the area Monday allowing for a weak wind shift, but the winds would return from the south quickly late Monday evening into Tuesday.  

The upper air flow will remain from the northwest for the next 48 to 72 hours before becoming more zonal by midweek.  The 594 DM ridge is not expected to move back into our area but readings will be near or slightly above 100 early next week before another system approaches Wednesday into Thursday.  This midweek system could hold some promise for a decent chance of storms across a large portion of northern OK.  Stay tuned!

 The NHC is tracking another depression this morning that may have a chance to become a named Atlantic tropical storm soon. The system may not become a hurricane during the next few days, but could strengthen to tropical storm status.  I have posted information on this system at my Facebook fan page, and you're more than welcome to visit that page for more information.
