A cool front will bring relief from the heat but will also bring a good chance of storms – some likely to be severe.

News On 6 meteorologist Dick Faurot says Sunday will see the end of the summer-like heat for at least a week. Before it goes, however, the heat and humidity "will create a very unstable atmosphere for the afternoon and evening hours," he said.

"As a result, we expect some storms to be developing later this afternoon and given the extreme instability, they will likely become severe very quickly," Faurot said.

"Fortunately, the dynamics are rather weak so large hail and damaging downburst winds appear to be the primary threats at this time."

That's the good news. The bad news is that the hail may be as large as baseballs, he said.

"Storms will continue through the night in advance of the approaching cool front with lingering showers and storms for much of the day Monday, particularly for the more southern counties," he said.

The rest of the week should see very mild conditions with morning lows in the 50s and daytime highs in the 70s.
