Fire investigators have not finished their investigation into a fire early Thursday morning that damaged an east Tulsa apartment complex, but they say the fire's cause is not suspicious.
A resident of the complex is dead. The name of the man has not yet been released.
Tulsa Fire investigators say the fire started behind a couch and they have no reason to believe it suspicious in nature and at this time believe it was caused by smoking or a faulty electrical extension.
Firefighters got the call at about 12:20 a.m. to the Cove Apartments in the 1400 block of South Memorial.
By the time they arrived on scene, flames were coming out of the attic of the complex.
Firefighters tried to go inside but were forced out by the flames and had to fight it from the outside. Firefighters said because of no firewalls in the building, it made it particularly hard for them to contain the fire.
Almost every apartment in the two story structure sustained fire and smoke damage.
A search of the apartments turned up a body of an unidentified male. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Red Cross was called and is assisting residents with finding temporary housing.
"I want to give to them financially. I want to give my time to them because they have been a blessing. An absolute blessing," Lori Moore, a fire victim, said.
Those people whose apartments were damaged won't be able to get inside and salvage what's left of their belongings until tomorrow.
