It will take years for Joplin to recover from May's devastating tornado. But, People Magazine credits the city's superintendent for getting temporary schools in place, so students could get some sense of normalcy back.

C.J. Huff is named one of the top six for the 2011 "Heroes Among Us" award. While he said he's honored, he said there are a lot of other people who deserve the credit too.

Still, he said it's nice to see Joplin getting attention.

"Volunteerism is starting to taper off donations funds coming in to support are starting to taper off so anyway we can bring that attention back to Joplin in a positive light I think is really important," Huff said.

The EF-5 tornado leveled about a third of the town and killed more than 160 people.
